For I Am Become Barbenheimer

This month we are celebrating the cinematic experience that was Barbenheimer. Barbie and Oppenheimer released at the same time in July of 2023. We, like many others participated in the blockbuster double feature. In Barbie, there is a multiverse where our dolls and humans are tethered together, and Margo Barbie must save Barbieland. In Oppenheimer, we have a slightly altered biopic on the real life monster that was Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer was attributed with the following quote, although it is worth noting that he is not actually the inventor of this phrase (more on this here):

"For I am Become Death, Destroyer Of Worlds"

This is a chilling quote that brings to the surface the sheer monstrous horror of inventing a world ending device. In the movie, our character version of Oppenheimer says this famous quote at the moment he realizes there is no undo button for his actions. You can't put the genie back in the bottle. The deaths of thousands, and maybe even human civilization itself, rests on his back. We captured this quote and re-contextualized it into something beautiful by tying it back to Margo Barbie.

In the barbie movie, Margot Barbie discovers that Barbieland is dying because of her, and she is bringing the end of Barbieland. This beautiful crossover moment felt like a fitting tie in to Oppenheimer's quote. Barbie is destroying Barbieland, and what would be more fitting here than a glitter bomb? thus "For I am Become Barbie, Destroyer of Barbieland" was born.
